Boxee for Windows still popular
1No wonder I got bandwith issues last time i’ve put up a mirror host of boxee package files for Windows, Linux, Osx. Last week I’ve put up a new mirror on github, within 5 days I’ve got over 350 download for only the windows version. So yes boxee, there are still a lot of users that prefer to run boxee on the PC!

boxee skin for xbmc
0Since the latest 1.x release boxee has lost a lot of love from the community. New design and in general the firmware has not always been stable. In the mean time xbmc has gone huge steps towards a very stable media platform. Just now a new skin has been released giving you the old 0.9 boxee skin look and feel, with the great power of xbmc.

Hosting issue
2My website and repository where briefly offline this morning due to an issue with my hosting provider. Since boxee removed the downloads of the old boxee 1.5 versions for windows, osx and linux I got a lot of traffic on these downloads which today exceded the maximum limits. Unfortunatly without warning they shutdown the entire website. For now I temporary removed the boxee 1.5 software download from my website till I found a good alternative for hosting the images. The boxee repository should work again without any problems.
Boxee 1.5
2Boxee finally made it to version 1.5, but wait this release is for pc, osx and linux! After almost a year boxee has finally released another update for the pc version. It brings all the nice feature upgrades from the boxee box to your pc. Think of the new webkit browser and html5 apps. The update has also a completely revamped skin which will be pushed to the boxee box mid januari.
Since this is a new platform I was unable to test all apps for good quality, if you find any issues please send me an email (info

Radio App – Update
4I noticed that the current Tune-in app was working a bit problematic:
- Some streams just do not play
- streams randomly stop
- You can not exit the app and keep your music on
This seems mostly caused by to the fact it is a html/browser app. That is why I decided to make a revamp as native app, consider it still very beta. It still does not offer syncing with your accoutn and some fancy features. But it does play your local streams fine and you can do some other stuf (watch photo’s etc) while listning to your music. You can find it in the main repository under the ‘old’ radio logo.
Happy Holidays!
Radio App
0The old Radio app for Dutch users was outdated and podcasts where already moved to the seperate podcast app. Thats why I have decided to take my own radio app offline for now.
At the moment there is a much better alternative in the boxee main repository, that is Tune-In radio (only boxee box). Just use the search key ‘tunein’ in the boxee menu search bar and you will find it. The app has almost all the dutch radiostations incorperated, you can make presenets with an account and ofcourse also foreign stations are supported.
Since it is an html app you can also check it out in your browser:
http://tv.tunein.com
I understand non boxee box users can not find the app as it is html based and the 0.9 firmware still has the old firefox browser. But there is some hot new stuff coming from boxee soon. Firmware 1.5 is due before the end of the year and it has been said that it comes with a client release for osx, windows and linux to! Check-out some early screens:
Release BartsideeTV 2.0
8Today bartsidee tv 2.0 has been released. Most of you have already used this complete rewrite in the beta that was online for quite some time. I now had finally the time to finish it. The changes made are mostly backend optimizations, but I also added a few minor gui modifications.
Changelog:
- Complete code rewrite
- Threaded search (faster) when multiple modules are enabled
- RTMP player improvements
- Minor gui changes
- New repository api, one can add your own repository in the future
- New caching engine
Maintenance BartsideeTV
0This week I will make some modification to bartsidee tv app, mainly the back-end to update some technical player aspects. I will also merge the current beta with the stable release. This leaves the beta for further testing, if you are using the beta this week, you might experience some minor defects or non playable streams due to this. All should be finished within a few days before 4 dec.
For future issues and request I will be using the github issue tracker.
https://github.com/bartsidee/Bartsidee-Open-Repository/issues
Update 03-dec:
Fixed some annoying issues related to rtmp and mp4 playback, this includes a fix for rtl and sbs. All changes are in the beta now. I will finish some final checks tomorrow so I can deploy a new stable release.
Flash 10.x Issues
0Boxee has a fixed flash version included in every build for its custom browser. For both platform and box it has at the moment flash version 10. More and more websites are now actually dropping support for 10 and only allow to play content for 10.1/10.2/11+. For the boxee box owners there is nothing to do other then wait for a firmware with a fix. But I was notified by Paul M. that there is a solution for at least boxee linux, follow the procedure below:
1. Go to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/
2. Select the appropriate OS and version from the lists
3. Download the plugin for linux (I have a Download folder that i place all my files in)
4.
or use Archive Manager to extract the archive
5.
6.
7.
8. Enjoy!
( I expect a similar procedure to work on mac and linux)
